Dynavector DV-10XA Moving Coil Cartridge

The Dynavector 10X series, a high-output Moving Coil (MC) cartridge, has been a global success since 1978, winning Design and Engineering Awards at the Chicago CES in 1978 and 1981. This iconic cartridge, with its distinctive red body, has continually evolved, incorporating a solid aluminum head block in 2003 and a "Shibata III" line contact stylus in the 10X5 MkII in 2018. Now, in 2025, the new 10XA model features a magnetic circuit with "Special Magnetic Annealing" technology, offering exceptionally smooth and articulate analog playback that exceeds expectations for an entry-level cartridge.

Pro-Ject Pick it MC2 Moving Coil Cartridge

During their in-depth research and development of True Balanced turntables and phono stages, Pro-Ject recognised the pivotal role that Moving Coil (MC) cartridges play in achieving both sonic and mechanical perfection. Only with MC cartridges can you fully take advantage of the technical benefits of a balanced connection—improving dynamics, expanding the soundstage, and, most notably, enhancing the quietness of the sound. However, the production of MC cartridges is far more intricate and costly than that of Moving Magnet (MM) cartridges. Staying true to their mission of making high-quality HiFi stereo systems more accessible, Pro-Ject introduced the Pick It MC2. The lightweight stylus and coil assembly of the MC cartridge enables a much wider frequency response and improved transient performance. This results in more detailed sound reproduction and a greater resolution of low-level signals. The lower source impedance of the MC cartridge also makes it less susceptible to external interference, resulting in reduced hum. However, because MC cartridges generally have a lower output—around 20dB less than MM cartridges—a high-quality phono stage is recommended to achieve the best performance. Fresh, Lively Sound Reproduction The new Pick It MC2 features an elliptical diamond mounted on an aluminium cantilever, delivering a richer tone and more nuanced details than the Pick It MC1. With an MC cartridge, you'll experience superior audio clarity, enhanced stereo imaging, and greater transparency compared to MM cartridges. The cartridge housing is made from resonance-optimised ABS, keeping the total weight at just 5 grams. With its medium compliance, the MC2 is a perfect match for most entry-level to mid-range turntables.  Pro-Ject also sought out the finest Japanese components for the most critical parts, including the diamond and cantilever. By combining these with an affordable, high-performance motor, all housed in a specially designed, resonance-free cabinet, the Pick It MC2 offers exceptional sound at an attractive price point.

Dynavector 20X2A Moving Coil Cartridge

The DV 20X2A is the base model in the Dynavector MC cartridge series, sharing the same core design as the higher-end XX-2A and Te Kaitora Rua models. It features a solid aluminum alloy body, hard aluminum cantilever, and Micro-Ridge stylus tip. You can choose between two types: the 20X2A-L (low output) for standard MC setups, or the 20X2A-H (high output) for most MM inputs. It's perfect for those who want the MC cartridge experience without needing an MC step-up transformer. High & Low Output Versions The 20X2A-H delivers a 2.8mV output thanks to Dynavector's renowned coil winding tech, making it compatible with MM inputs on your PHONO terminal without needing a head amp or step-up transformer. The 20X2A-L, with a 0.3mV output, uses the same high-quality PCOCC wires and works well with head amps and MC step-up transformers that have a load impedance of 30Ω or more. Special Annealing Magnetic Circuit The core of the MC cartridge, the magnetic circuit, is made from pure iron with stable, low-distortion magnetic properties. By fine-tuning the annealing process—adjusting temperature, environment, and heating/cooling times—we’ve achieved rich, resonant sound with exceptional clarity and minimal distortion. Neodymium magnets and soft magnets This series uses patented softened magnets to minimise distortion and harshness typically caused by rare earth magnets, while still delivering high output through powerful neodymium magnets. By harnessing neodymium's strong magnetic force, the cartridge ensures clear sound separation. Micro-Ridge Stylus The stylus tip features a Micro-Ridge design with a contact radius of just 2 microns. Its band-like shape makes it highly resistant to wear, ensuring optimal performance for an extended period. Compliance The 20X2A series, with a compliance of 12mm/N and a weight of 9.2g, works well with most light to medium-weight tonearms (lighter headshells are recommended).

Lyra Etna Mono Lambda Moving Coil Cartridge

This is a special, built-to-order, mono version of Etna λ Lambda for real mono playback of monaural/monophonic (mono) microgroove, vinyl records. It is recommended that the Etna λ Lambda Mono is used with high-gain, low noise phono stages, or alternatively a step-up transformer designed for phono cartridges of 2 - 3 ohms or less. On mono records, the vertical axis of the groove contains no musical information, but it will frequently have noise, in the form of groove damage and dirt. The Etna λ Lambda Mono has therefore been designed to be completely insensitive to the vertical axis, which greatly improves the signal/noise ratio without any downside on monaural records.

Lyra Etna SL Lambda Moving Coil Cartridge

Lyra again turns the analog world on its ear with the introduction of the Etna λ Lambda phono cartridge. Sharing its name with Sicily’s majestic Mount Etna, Etna λ Lambda the cartridge is an impressive monument in its own right, one that melds tried and true Lyra design tenets with designer Jonathan Carr’s very latest thinking on phono cartridges. Etna λ Lambda was designed with a strong emphasis on engineering efficiency, so that its performance would be as far beyond the sum of its parts as possible. For this reason, although it shares some of its design philosophy with Atlas λ Lambda, the concepts are executed rather differently.

Lyra Atlas SL Lambda Moving Coil Cartridge

The Atlas λ Lambda is Lyra’s new flagship phono cartridge. Why asymmetric? By literally misplacing the “barriers” to great sound that are present in every other cartridge today, a number of important performance benefits are realized. First, different-shaped structures on the left and right sides of the cartridge body suppress the formation of standing waves within, resulting in a significant reduction of resonance-induced colorations. Second, the asymmetric construction offsets the front magnet carrier and its associated mounting system so that it is no longer in line with the cantilever assembly. This opens up a direct, solid path between the cantilever assembly and tonearm head shell so that vibrations from the cantilever can be quickly drained away once they have been converted into electrical signals, again suppressing induced resonances.

Ortofon MC A Mono Moving Coil Cartridge

The MC A Mono is a TRUE MONO cartridge for play-back of MONO recordings.  If you play a MONO record with a stereo cartridge you will not achieve the same signal in the two channels due to imperfections such as crosstalk, noise, phase errors, tracking error, antiskating and distortion. This difference between the channels will result in an unstable and partially fuzzy image. A mono switch, to some extent, can improve this.

Goldring Ethos Moving Coil Cartridge

Ethos is a truly high-end cartridge featuring a vital-shank, nude-diamond stylus. This polyhedral, line-contact profile was chosen because it has a very low tip-mass and a large contact area whilst being very narrow from front to back; even enabling the undistorted retrieval of ultrasonic frequencies in a recording. In order to properly process this information, at the heart of the Ethos cartridge is Goldring's hand-built GOL-1 moving-coil generator. Featuring a hand-wound cross-shaped, soft-iron armature and married to a low resonance aircraft aluminium chassis, each one is precision tuned by expert craftsmen to achieve the best ever level of performance.

Although many MC cartridges have good performance, their sound is held back by how they are designed.
