Thorens TD 1500 Turntable

In 1965, the Thorens TD 150, an inconspicuous little turntable, came on the market and thus started a technical revolution in record player manufacturing. For the first time, a spring-suspended sub-chassis with an inner platter driven by a flat belt was used in a mass-produced unit. Like its famous predecessor, the new Thorens TD 1500, which will be operated purely manually, features a sub-chassis that decouples the turntable and tonearm shelf from the motor and frame by means of three conical springs. In contrast to the TD 150, these springs can be adjusted from above through corresponding holes in the platter, which makes correct adjustment much easier.Key Features: Sub chassis with three conical springs Belt drive with polished precision belt Massive 1.4 kg and 22mm-thick Die-cast aluminum platter Pre-installed cartridge Ortofon 2 M Bronze Electronical controlled motor balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) output Thorens precision tonearm TP 150

Lyra Etna Mono Lambda Moving Coil Cartridge

This is a special, built-to-order, mono version of Etna λ Lambda for real mono playback of monaural/monophonic (mono) microgroove, vinyl records. It is recommended that the Etna λ Lambda Mono is used with high-gain, low noise phono stages, or alternatively a step-up transformer designed for phono cartridges of 2 - 3 ohms or less. On mono records, the vertical axis of the groove contains no musical information, but it will frequently have noise, in the form of groove damage and dirt. The Etna λ Lambda Mono has therefore been designed to be completely insensitive to the vertical axis, which greatly improves the signal/noise ratio without any downside on monaural records.

Lyra Etna SL Lambda Moving Coil Cartridge

Lyra again turns the analog world on its ear with the introduction of the Etna λ Lambda phono cartridge. Sharing its name with Sicily’s majestic Mount Etna, Etna λ Lambda the cartridge is an impressive monument in its own right, one that melds tried and true Lyra design tenets with designer Jonathan Carr’s very latest thinking on phono cartridges. Etna λ Lambda was designed with a strong emphasis on engineering efficiency, so that its performance would be as far beyond the sum of its parts as possible. For this reason, although it shares some of its design philosophy with Atlas λ Lambda, the concepts are executed rather differently.

Lyra Atlas SL Lambda Moving Coil Cartridge

The Atlas λ Lambda is Lyra’s new flagship phono cartridge. Why asymmetric? By literally misplacing the “barriers” to great sound that are present in every other cartridge today, a number of important performance benefits are realized. First, different-shaped structures on the left and right sides of the cartridge body suppress the formation of standing waves within, resulting in a significant reduction of resonance-induced colorations. Second, the asymmetric construction offsets the front magnet carrier and its associated mounting system so that it is no longer in line with the cantilever assembly. This opens up a direct, solid path between the cantilever assembly and tonearm head shell so that vibrations from the cantilever can be quickly drained away once they have been converted into electrical signals, again suppressing induced resonances.

Rothwell Audio Signature Two Moving Coil Phono Preamplifier

The Signature Two is an audiophile moving coil phonostage employing low-noise discrete transistor circuitry throughout - no op-amps or transformers - and offers variable gain and cartridge load impedance. The Signature Two's circuit is the culmination of over 25 years experience in the design and production of audiophile phonostages and is a four-stage design using discrete transistors operating in Class A. The first stage is a low-noise design with adjustable load impedance from 32 ohms to 1100 ohms and gain variable from 52dB to 72dB, load and gain being adjustable independently of each other. This allows a very wide range of low output moving coil cartridges to be handled with optimum performance.

Rothwell Audio Signature One Moving Coil Phono Preamplifier

The Signature One is a phono pre-amp dedicated to low output moving coil cartridges and uses transformer coupling to achieve the best possible performance. The very low signal levels produced by low output moving coil cartridges (usually less than a tenth of those produced by moving magnet cartridges) require careful handling to achieve a noise performance approaching the best theoretically possible. Transistors cannot get as close as transformer coupling can, and op-amps are even less so. Despite decades of research and development in transistor technology transformers still offer the best noise performance. This is an uncomfortable fact when the best possible performance is demanded because transformers are vastly more expensive than transistors, but it is a fact non the less.

Audio Research Reference Phono 3SE Phono Stage

Please Note: This item cannot be ordered online. If you are interested, please click on the 'Enquire' button above. When Audio Research was founded in 1970, analog vinyl playback was the de facto music source of the time. Audio Research has either incorporated or built stand-alone phono stages since the very beginning and has continuously provided phono preamplification, even during the height of digital music. The Reference Phono 3SE is the next great advancement in analog playback and represents a new benchmark. The knowledge gained in the creation of Audio Research’s award-winning Reference 160-series amplifiers has transitioned to both Reference preamplifiers. The Reference Phono 3SE continues the upgrades introduced in the Reference 6SE line-stage, including a number of new, ultra-high-quality parts judiciously incorporated into its design and ushering in a new level of sonic accuracy and musicality. Due to the extremely low-level nature of the signals involved in a phono stage, the component and wiring upgrades incorporated in the Reference Phono 3SE combine to create a startling advancement in performance. The improvements heard immediately include enhanced resolution at all levels, greater purity and focus, improved transient speed and snap, and better dynamic shading. The sum of these improvements is exceptional, further breaking down the barrier between reproduced sound and the immediacy of a live event.

Audio Research PH9 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier

Grado The Reference 3 Timbre Series Cartridge

Achieving fantastic accuracy and control, the Reference3 does everything the Master3 can do - but does it better thanks to specialized intricate processes while being crafted. While similar to its younger sibling in a few aspects, the Reference3 has a much longer build time since it undergoes extremely unique processes only a few of Grado's cartridges go through. This longer, more intricate practice produces a more colourful and deeper sound. When working in tandem with the special curing process and individual calibrations, they have the best cartridge in the Timbre Series.

Grado Master 3 Timbre Series Cartridge

Nearing the top of the Timbre Series, the Master3 achieves optimal sonic quality due to an intricate curing process and specialized materials reserved for Grado's best cartridges. Some practices they reserve for cartridges near the top of the line, and it starts here. To achieve the desired sound, Grado experimented with multiple longer curing processes that differ from the Opus3, Platinum3, and Sonata3 while using more modified materials. Each Master3 is individually calibrated after being built.

Ortofon MC A Mono Moving Coil Cartridge

The MC A Mono is a TRUE MONO cartridge for play-back of MONO recordings.  If you play a MONO record with a stereo cartridge you will not achieve the same signal in the two channels due to imperfections such as crosstalk, noise, phase errors, tracking error, antiskating and distortion. This difference between the channels will result in an unstable and partially fuzzy image. A mono switch, to some extent, can improve this.

All turntables currently on the market are constructed either with or without a suspension system. Suspended turntables are better isolated from both mechanical and sound vibrations emitted from the speakers. These turntables are often preferred to rigid ones as they deliver a more organic sound and a softer presentation. However, the suspended platter and tone arm present a significant downside – a pronounced blurring of the musical signal. This is caused by torsional forces, a natural tendency of the sub-platter frame to rotate in sync with the platter. Although this rotation is controlled by springs, or other elastic parts found in the suspension, at this new point of equilibrium, the slightest vibration coming from the stylus reading the groove is echoed back to the stylus, out of phase. the result: the stereo image produced is blurred and distorted. Critical musical information is permanently lost.

Audio Research Reference Phono 10 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier

Please Note: This item cannot be ordered online. If you are interested, please click on the 'Enquire' button above. Vinyl record playback has been an integral part of Audio Research since our founding in 1970. Think back to the great phono stages built into the defining preamplifiers of their day, among them the SP3, SP6, SP8, SP10, and SP11. Even after the introduction of the compact disc in 1982, phono sections remained a revered part of our preamplifiers. The first Audio Research phono preamplifier in a separate chassis was introduced in 1992. After all this time, we are proud to finally introduce the first two-chassis phono preamplifier in our history, the Reference Phono 10. This model number was designated because it mirrors its line-stage counterpart, the Reference 10, providing an unsurpassed level of performance in its category. The front panel has a 7” diagonal touch screen mounted asymmetrically, and only two buttons for power and mute. The interactive touch screen allows the user to change inputs (and input names), equalization, loading, gain, muting, foreground and background colors of the display, display intensity, and tube hours. Control functions are duplicated on the supplied metal remote. The front and side panels are 3/8” brushed and anodized aluminum, and the tops of both units are acrylic with a laser-cut perforation pattern (chosen for its sonic benefits).

Lyra Kleos Moving Coil Cartridge

Although many MC cartridges have good performance, their sound is held back by how they are designed. The problem is, the signal coils should have the same angle as the magnetic circuit during playback, but MC cartridges are typically designed so that the opposite happens - applying normal tracking force pushes the coils out of alignment. This impairs coil sensitivity and linearity, and reduces sound quality.
