The Nd9 cartridge draws on decades of expertise in cartridge engineering and cantilever design to deliver the highest-performing moving magnet cartridge the company has ever produced. The design team introduced a Boron rod cantilever with a Fine Line stylus profile based on the reference Aphelion 2 moving-coil cartridge for use in the Nd9. The Boron cantilever offers exceptional stiffness and low mass, enabling ultra-fast response and outstanding playback accuracy.

Key Features:

  • Fine Line nude diamond profile
  • Boron cantilever
  • Neodymium magnet
  • Unique generator
  • Rega 3 point mounting system
  • Highly rigid PPS body
  • Handmade stereo cartridge
  • 100% recyclable packaging
  • Available factory fitted on the Planar 8 turntable.
  • Lifetime warranty against manufacture defects

The Nd9 moving magnet cartridge represents the pinnacle of Rega's expertise, meticulously hand-built by their highly skilled technicians. Its design focuses on achieving maximum musical detail retrieval and playback accuracy.

The Nd9 utilises Rega's most advanced "fine line" nude diamond profile, bonded to a solid Boron rod cantilever. This Boron cantilever is exceptionally light, allowing for faster reaction to changes in the record surface, and is highly rigid for its mass, minimizing bending to transmit motion more accurately with less distortion. The fine line diamond profile features exceptionally small minor radii of just 3μm (microns) when viewed from the top and 30μm vertically. This small contact area allows the stylus to instantly adjust to minute changes in the vinyl surface, resulting in exceptional levels of detail retrieval. An engineering challenge was connecting the powerful Nd magnet to the solid Boron rod, a feat achieved through collaboration with a renowned watchmaker who manufactured an ultra-fine connecting tube with different diameters at each end.

For the generator, the Nd9 uses a completely new geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance. Miniaturised parallel coils are wound in-house utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. This precise winding produces a low-inductance, low-impedance generator, providing vastly improved high-frequency response. Furthermore, an optimised pole gap enhances linearity and crosstalk characteristics, resulting in a far wider soundstage than previous models.

The Nd range is the first of Rega's moving magnet cartridges to utilise a Neodymium (Nd) N55 magnet, the world’s most powerful commercially available magnet. This powerful Nd magnet is typically reserved for Moving Coil designs (including Rega's own) and delivers extra power compared to standard bar magnet designs, making this unique moving magnet system possible.

The entire assembly is housed in a zero-tolerance, injection-moulded glass-filled Polyphenylene Sulphide (PPS) body. This material is lightweight and highly rigid. A low-mass body is critical in accurate vinyl replay as it reduces stress on the tonearm bearings and aids free movement. This design was inspired by Rega’s successful Moving Coil (MC) range. In keeping with Rega's commitment to sustainability, the complete Nd range is supplied in 100% recyclable packaging.

The Nd9 cartridge is offered as a factory-fitted option on the multi award-winning Planar 8 turntable model, providing the customer with this package at a discounted rate compared to purchasing the components separately.

Rega’s unique pivot pad design improves performance by eliminating the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and the main body, vastly improving tracking ability and stability. Should a customer damage or wear out their Rega cartridge, they can return it to their dealer for the Rega Rebuild Scheme. The customer receives a new rebuild cartridge fitted with a new cantilever, stylus, and pivot pad, fully tested to the same standards as a new unit. This rebuild is sold at a reduced price equivalent to the cost of a replacement stylus offered by other manufacturers, reinforcing Rega's commitment to long-term value.
