Recycling Your Old Electricals with TurntableWorld (WEEE Scheme)
At HiFiSound trading as TurntableWorld, we are committed to reducing the environmental impact of electronic waste. Under the UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations, we offer a free take-back scheme to help our customers dispose of old audio equipment responsibly when buying new gear from us.
How Our WEEE Take-Back Scheme Works
When you purchase a new piece of electrical equipment from TurntableWorld, whether in-store, online, or over the phone, we will take back your old item free of charge on a like-for-like or functional basis.
Like-for-Like & Equivalent Function
The item you return does not need to be the same brand as your new purchase, but it must perform a similar function or fall within the same equipment category.
Buying a new amplifier? We’ll take back your old amplifier.
Upgrading to a Network Streamer? We’ll take back your old CD player or digital tuner.
Timeframe
You have up to 28 days from the date of purchasing your new equipment to return your old item to us.
Cost & Delivery Options
In-Store Take-Back: Free of charge. Simply bring your old item to our store within 28 days of purchase alongside proof of your new purchase.
Collection Services: If you require us to collect your old item from your home, we can arrange this. Please note that while the recycling service itself is free, a small charge will apply to cover transport and collection costs.
Unwanted electrical items are the UK’s fastest-growing type of waste. Many Hi-Fi components contain valuable metals and materials that can be recovered and reused.
When electrical equipment is thrown into regular household waste or sent to a landfill, hazardous substances can leak out, contaminating soil and water systems and harming wildlife and human health. Recycling ensures these materials are processed safely and sustainably.
The Crossed-Out Wheelie Bin Symbol
All electrical and electronic products manufactured today are marked with the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol.
This symbol serves as a reminder that the item should not be disposed of in your standard household waste bins. Instead, it should be recycled separately through an approved take-back scheme like ours or at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.
