The Rega Planar 6 RS Edition represents a significant leap in performance, bridging the gap between the standard Planar 6 and the high-end Planar 8. This "Rega Special" edition retains the classic form factor and dustcover but incorporates elite engineering usually reserved for the tier above. Built on an ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 foam core plinth with a unique aluminum HP laminate skin, it provides a rigid, low-resonance foundation for its advanced components. The RS Edition comes factory-fitted with the precision RB880 tonearm and the multi-award-winning Nd9 moving magnet cartridge, both expertly aligned for immediate high-fidelity playback. Accuracy is further enhanced by a hand-tuned 24v motor driving an aluminum sub-platter via a CNC twin drive pulley and dual Reference EBLT drive belts, all governed by the included Neo MK2 PSU.

Key Features:

Ultra-Lightweight Plinth

Rega has spent decades perfecting the science of high-rigidity, low-mass plinths. The Planar 6 RS Edition is built upon our signature Tancast 8 foam core, a material originally developed for the aerospace industry. While the standard range utilises a phenolic resin skin, the RS Edition features a stunning brushed-metal aluminum HPL skin with matching edging. This creates an incredibly stiff yet lightweight foundation that effectively kills resonance before it can reach the stylus.

RB880 Precision Tonearm

The RB880 is the culmination of 40 years of tonearm evolution. Designed using 3D CAD technology, it features a stainless steel vertical bearing shaft and a redesigned sleeve for maximum mounting stability. By intelligently redistributing mass across the tonearm tube, Rega engineers have eliminated potential resonance points. Combined with hand-matched, friction-free bearing assemblies, the RB880 provides the extreme stability required to extract every microscopic detail from your vinyl.

Double Brace Technology

To further stiffen the assembly, the RS Edition employs Rega’s "stressed beam" double brace system. By mounting high-thickness braces specifically between the tonearm and the main hub bearing, we increase rigidity exactly where it's needed most. This targeted approach avoids the pitfalls of heavy, mass-loaded plinths—which often absorb energy and transfer motor noise—ensuring that the only energy being processed is the music itself.

24V Low-Noise Motor

At the heart of the drive system is a 24V AC synchronous motor, paired with a custom CNC-machined twin-drive aluminum pulley. To ensure near-silent operation and perfect timing, every motor is hand-tuned to its specific Neo MK2 power supply before leaving the factory, virtually eliminating vibration.

Neo MK2 Power Supply

The Neo MK2 is a sophisticated outboard power controller that brings digital precision to analogue playback. It features an advanced anti-vibration circuit and allows for convenient electronic speed changes. By providing user-controllable fine speed adjustment and a stabilised power signal, the Neo MK2 significantly enhances rotational accuracy and speed stability.

Nd9 Reference Moving Magnet Cartridge

Meticulously hand-built by expert technicians, the Nd9 is our most advanced moving magnet cartridge to date. It utilises a "fine line" nude diamond profile bonded to a specialised Boron rod cantilever for unrivalled detail retrieval. With a minor radius of just 3μm, the monocrystalline diamond has a tiny contact area that can track the smallest variations in the record groove. Combined with a brand-new, perfectly symmetrical generator geometry, the Nd9 delivers highly accurate channel balance and an incredibly wide soundstage.
