The Gold3 uses a four piece OTL cantilever with a Grado specific elliptical diamond stylus mounted on a brass bushing. A machined turned generator is used to achieve a lower distortion and greater transparency. The Gold3 are hand selected from Silver3 production runs which meet higher test specifications. Approximately 5% of the run usually exhibits these specs and become a Gold3.

Recently, Sumiko made the decision to explore the resonance optimisation of the Blue Point No. 2 as they recognised there was room for refinement for this well-established cartridge. Resonance has a more significant impact than many listeners realise and Sumiko wanted to reimagine how the housing resonates around the generator in the Blue Point range. This resulted in the arrival of the new Blue Point No. 3.
